Character Guide
Thomas
Number: 1 Class: 0-6-0 Color: Blue with Red Stripes First Appearance: Thomas and Gordon/Thomas Gets Tricked
Bio: Thomas is a small, blue tank engine who has his own branch line. It was given to him by the Fat Controller after he helped James recover from an accident in "Thomas and the Breakdown Train." Thomas is a fussy little engine, and he is sometimes impatient. He used to tease the other engines, especially Gordon. That is, until Gordon tricked Thomas and taught him a lesson he won't soon forget. He still teases the other engines, though not as often. He used to work at Wellsworth Staion getting the coaches ready for the big engines to take on long journeys. He has been featured in every season of the show thus far.
Edward
Number: 2 Class: 4-4-0 Color: Blue with Red Stripes First Appearance: Edward and Gordon
Bio: Edward is a medium-sized blue tender engine. Edward is very kind, and will help anyone in their time of need. Despite his good reputation on the railway, the bigger engines tend to tease him about his age, even going as far as telling him he has grey, square wheels and that he should be scrapped! Despite being one of the oldest engines on Sodor, he has proved countless times that he can do work just as good as any other engine. He doesn't complain about his work, and unlike most other engines, enjoys working with trucks. Remarkably, Edward has only had three accidents throughout the entire series! He gets along well with almost everyone he meets, and is more than happy to give advice to younger engines.
Henry
Number: 3 Class: 5MT Color: Green with Red Stripes First Appearance: The Sad Story of Henry
Bio: Henry is a big, green tender engine. He is a very hard worker, but can be arrogant and vain at times. It was because of this that Henry was shut up in a tunnel. It had been raining, and he didn't want to soil his nice, green paint. He was let out again when Gordon and Edward needed help pulling the express. Despite being vain, Henry is an overall kind engine who will help out if he is needed. He is, unfortunatly, prone to illness and this sometimes hinders his work. He was involved in a serious accident while pulling the Flying Kipper, an important goods train. As a result, he was sent away to be repaired. While he was away, he was fitted with a new shape. He loves his new shape, but he unfortunatly still suffers from illness more often than the other engines. Poor Henry.
Gordon
Number: 4 Class: LNER A1/A3 Color: Blue with Red Stripes First Appearance: Thomas and Gordon
Bio: Gordon is a proud, strong engine. His main job is to pull the big express down the main line. He is, without a doubt, the fastest engine on Sodor. Gordon is a very strong engine with an arrogant attitude, which sometimes lands him in trouble. There was once a time when he wouldn't fetch his coaches because he believed tender engines don't shunt. The Fat Controller had Gordon, along with James and Henry, stay in the shed for several days. After that, he no longer believes only tank engines should shunt, but he is still somewhat arrogant. Once in a while he will give advice to other engines, but it almost never helps. James and Sir Handel found that out pretty quick! Gordon cares about his fellow engines, however, and he is quick to help his friends in time of need.
James
Number: 5 Class: 2-6-0 Color: Red with Gold Stripes First Appearance: The Breakdown Train
Bio: James is a vain, red mixed traffic engine. That means he can pull coaches and trucks. He is very proud of being the only red engine on the island. James is incredibly vain, and that leads him to touble. Because of that he has had accidents with tar, trees, trucks, and even coaches! James was bumping the coaches, which caused a leak in one of his brakepipes. The leak was fixed with some old newspaper and, more famously, a leather bootlace! He was teased about the incident for a very long time, which is probably the reason he is not as vain as he used to be. That's not to say that he isn't vain, just less vain than he was. James gets along good with most other engines, but he was the last one to learn to like diesels. ames used to be rivals with Edward, but they are now good friends.
Percy
Number: 6 Class: 0-4-0 Color: Green with Red Stripes First Appearance: Trouble in the Shed
Bio: Percy is a small, green engine that came to Sodor while the big engines were shut up in the shed. He is a cheeky little engine that loves to play jokes on the bigger engines. This, however, lead the big engines to play tricks right back at him. They once tricked percy into believing there is such a thing as a back signal. Percy was sad, but he is still a cheeky engine. Percy is often the engine other engines inform about new words or lessons. For example, Percy says "dingy-fried" when other engines would say "dignified". Percy is a very kind engine at haert, however and will rush to the aid of an engine in need. Unfortunately, Percy is incredibly accident-prone, and holds the record for the most accidents in one season...5! Percy is a very happy-go-lucky engine, though, and can make friends with just about anyone.
Toby
Number: 7 Class: J70 0-6-0T Color: Brown with Grey Sideplates and Cowcatchers First Appearance: Toby and the Stout Gentleman
Bio: Toby is a square, brown tram engine equipped with sideplates and cowcatchers. He is an old engine, which causes the other engines to believe he is not useful any more, much like they do Edward. Toby used to work on a harbour, but came to sodor when the Fat Controller needed an engine with sideplates and cowcatchers to run the Quarry line. Toby is a kind engine, but is often nervous when he is to be in the spotlight. He has a coach called Henrietta, and a luggage van named Elsie, who does not appear in the television series.
